West Gate Neighbourhood Fund Grants

Support

Community and sporting groups from the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong council areas will share in close to $500,000 in the first round of funding from the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund Grants Program.

The grants, an initiative of the West Gate Tunnel Project, will enable not-for-profit organisations to embark on projects that will connect, celebrate and transform communities in the inner-west.

The $10 million fund is an initiative of the Victorian Government to make sure neighbourhoods in the inner west benefit from the West Gate Tunnel Project now.

Community

Under the Grants stream funding up to $100,000 has been allocated to 28 projects that will connect locals through art and culture, sustainability, open spaces, sport and recreation, health and wellbeing, community and multicultural services, and education.

Congratulations to the successful applicants from this round. Some of the recipients include:

  • Italian Social Club Altona Incorporated, for its plan to upgrade two bocce courts and the addition of a third court, creating an indoor facility with lighting to be used all year around by community members.
  • Arts Gen, which will be revamping its multipurpose art and community space Mario’s Studio
  • The East African Women’s Foundation for its Community Connection program, which will create a space for social and cultural gatherings and provide a one-stop place for access to services, assistance support and referral
  • Slow Food Melbourne, for Urban Harvest Hobsons Bay – A series of community events in Newport to identify and map the under utilised urban food sources within Hobsons Bay.

The grants follow on from the announcement in March 2021 of the first round of West Gate Neighbourhood Fund Partnerships for projects over $100,000, with 19 projects funded.
